This section highlights my leadership experience in various student publications, including Word magazine, The Southwestern Sun newspaper, and El Sol magazine. Through these roles, I led editorial teams, managed production schedules, and oversaw the creation of impactful content, demonstrating my skills in writing, editing, and project management.
As Managing Editor for Word Issue 54, my first issue in the role, I led the editorial process with a focus on precision and cohesion. I conducted first-round edits on every article, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with our artistic vision. I worked closely with the design team to ensure each article harmonized with its visual counterpart, elevating the overall presentation. In addition to overseeing editorial tasks, I managed multiple teams—including social media, advertising, and poetry editors—driving collaboration and ensuring deadlines were met. I also planned and taught lessons to new writers on essential journalism skills, including conducting interviews and mastering basic AP style. My leadership in coordinating production, maintaining high editorial standards, and mentoring new talent helped shape a polished, cohesive issue.
As Associate Editor-in-Chief for El Sol Issue XIII, the sister magazine of The Southwestern Sun, I played a key role in compiling the best stories from the year to highlight the culture and community of that time. I created the short list of stories, ensuring each piece represented the essence of the publication, and collaborated closely with the design team to finalize layout and visual elements. My leadership helped craft an issue that captured the heart of our community.
